There's a decent chance you had hoped you'd never be where you are now. Your son is looking at joining a fraternity and you're not quite sold on the idea. It's entirely natural and surprisingly common for you to feel this way. Many of the brothers in the fraternity now never thought they would join a Greek group, and their parents were just as surprised. It's important that you understand that fraternities are nothing like the depictions in films and on TV. We take academics very seriously. In fact, one of the most important aspects of the Fraternity is providing academic resources in the forms of tutoring, notes, and study groups among brothers. We have a library in our house that has course books and study spaces. The Greek male average GPA at WashU is consistently above the all male average. You may have images of wild parties and outlandish antics, but there are TKEs in our very chapter who do not drink, and the majority of brothers don't drink in a typical week. We don't expect you to take our word for it, but instead hope that you allow your son to explore Tau Kappa Epsilon. We believe very strongly that you will be pleasantly surprised.
