FAQ

Can freshman rush in the fall?

No. Washington University has what is called a "delayed rush." New freshmen must wait until the spring to rush and join a fraternity. This allows a chance to explore interests and find student groups as well as adjust to campus life before joining Greek life.

Then what is Fall Rush!

Fall rush (or Informal Rush) is for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors interested in joining Greek life. It generally has fewer numbers and a more "laid back" feel.

Does TKE practice hazing?

No. Absolutely not.

The new member processes is entirely centered around getting to know the current brothers and the fellow "pledges." Xi TKE, TKE nationals, and WashU all have a zero tolerance policy on hazing. No prospective member will be asked to do anything that harms him mentally or physically, nor will he be required to consume alcohol. We feel that hazing is incompatible with the close friendship of brotherhood. If you are the victim of hazing by any fraternity please contact the national anti-hazing hotline at 1 - (888) NOT-HAZE (1 - (888) 668-4293).

How much of my time does TKE take?

In college time management becomes very important; it is up to you to make the most of your time and ensure it isn't a waste. TKE is a time commitment that, especially during the new membership process, can be somewhat rigid. The most important thing is that the Fraternity gives you more when you put in more. TKE does not prohibit or preclude joining other groups - in fact we encourage it. We strive to have our brothers as leaders all over campus. We strive to make leaders of all the men in our ranks and support our brothers in their undertakings both in and out of Greek life.

Don't fraternities just party all the time?

Many people seem to have taken the image of social fraternities promoted in movies and TV as fact. Fraternities, especially those at WashU, are much more laid back. While we do hold social events throughout the year, the fraternity does not approve of alcohol abuse. We have a customized risk management plan for our fraternity to ensure that our house is secure and events are under control. That being said, the vast majority of brotherhood doesn't involve alcohol. Whether it is intramural sports, community service, or simply hanging out spending time with brothers is the most rewarding part of Greek life.
