Why TKE?
What Do I Want To Do Here?
This is a pretty common question for most people once they get into college. Many people come straight from high school, some have taken some time before making the jump to college, and some have had some college, left for various reasons and then came back, but whatever the story, the question is still the same. What do I want to do here?
Some people will rush through college and try to finish in three years, working plus taking 21 credits and never taking the time to enjoy all that college life has to offer. Some people will take 12 credits and party at every chance, overloading that side of their life, and while it does give you stories to tell, it isn't going to prepare you for life after college.
We believe in the middle ground. We embrace the fact that the real reason to be at WU is to learn and prepare yourself for life after college, while we also know that classes alone will not truly make you ready to live in the real world. This is the premise of a social fraternity such as Tau Kappa Epsilon.
Tau Kappa Epsilon challenges you to make the most of your life. Becoming a brother, gaining confidence through experience, developing as an individual and a leader, and making the most out of opportunities—these are the hallmarks of being a Teke.
What is Tau Kappa Epsilon?
Tau Kappa Epsilon is a group of men bound together by friendship, brotherhood, and common goals and aspirations. The members that form the fraternity share their friendships, efforts, and knowledge. Together these members learn and grow and make the fraternity strong. Their common experience builds ties that lasts a lifetime. This forms a brotherhood amongst the members, developing strong and creative leadership which leads to success. The ideals of lifelong friendship, sound education, campus and community service, and social interaction are what TKE men strive to live by every day.
Why Should I Join a Tau Kappa Epsilon?
You come to college to continue your education. A college career will prepare you to pursue the career of your choice. That education will develop within you an awareness of the world around you, leadership qualities, the desire to assume responsibility, and a maturity that will be with you forever. TKE will play a proud part in developing these qualities.
Joining TKE will help a new university student adjust to life in college and help build time management, scholastic, and interpersonal networking skills which will prove to be invaluable in their collegiate and professional lives.
What can TKE Offer a Student?
First and foremost, Tau Kappa Epsilon supports their collegiate members by promoting both high academic achievement and student involvement. A recent national study comparing fraternity members with other students showed that a fraternity member is much more likely to graduate from college successfully. Fraternity members are represented extremely well in the various honor societies, clubs, organizations, athletic teams, and student government posts. Why? Because they are interested in promoting a healthy academic and social atmosphere. Tau Kappa Epsilon encourages participation in many intramural, clubs, and varsity sports. Tau Kappa Epsilon provides numerous social events such as mixers, parties, and informal gatherings.
Some things to look forward to as a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon include:
Scholarship: Everyone's first concern about joining a fraternity is whether they can still achieve good grades. Statistics show that fraternity men at Washington University, and nationwide, consistently earn better grades than the all-male average. At TKE, we make sure to keep a strong emphasis on academics, by providing tutoring and study materials, and by operating with the understanding that a strong academic record not only prepares members for success after graduation, but it also helps them strengthen their mind to the world.
Activity: Membership in TKE provides the chance to participate in and take charge of all kinds of activities throughout the year. From intramural sports to community service, social events to special conferences, there is always something to do. Whether just kicking back and hanging out with the brothers, to getting out there and trying something new, there are no dull moments in TKE.
Brotherhood: In TKE, over 250,000 alumni across over 270 colleges and universities have established solid friendships that last a lifetime, making it the largest college fraternity in the world. Whether searching for jobs, meeting people in a new city, or just looking for a couch to crash on, this extensive network on men who share similar values and experiences comes in handy all the time.
